“Men take better care of their cars than they do their bodies” - Dr. Ash Tewari
Your body is like a sophisticated machine, and to keep it functioning at its best, you have to be actively involved in taking care of it.
Dr. Tewari strongly believes that lifestyle factors significantly impact outcomes.
To help all of our patients achieve the best outcomes, we offer comprehensive and compassionate care.
Man Cave Health
There are more than 2.9 million men living with prostate cancer in the United States and most of them never talk about it.
Man Cave Health is an initiative founded by The Milana Family Foundation and led by Dr. Tewari’s team to break the silence surrounding sensitive health topics for men.
Nearly 81% of men remember the make and model of their first car, but barely half remember their last doctor’s visit. Man Cave Health is committed to changing these statistics, and that means changing the landscape of men’s health.
Helping men talk about it
The Man Cave is a unique patient care model combining educational resources, emotional support, and the latest in medical technology. Man Cave Health is creating sports-themed facilities where men can feel at ease, complete with a team of friends, medical professionals, educators, and advocates ready to help them take control of their healthcare journey, making it more comfortable for men to go to the doctor.
We have replaced the traditional clinical setting with a more relaxed environment, which includes memorabilia from local sports teams, flat-screened televisions, leather seating, and coffee bars.

Men’s health – a Multidisciplinary Program
We have a Men’s Health Program in collaboration with the Department of Urology at Mount Sinai.
This program provides men of all ages with a comprehensive, holistic assessment and approach to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of some of the most common diseases affecting men, including disorders of the prostate and urination (prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and urinary incontinence) and issues related to sexual function (erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, and sexually transmitted diseases).
We also perform risk profiling for men wishing to understand the likelihood of their developing prostate, kidney, and bladder cancer.
Our mission is to provide a compassionate, focused, and efficient program that encompasses medicine, nutrition, exercise, and stress reduction in achieving balance and maintaining health. Our multidisciplinary program is directed by Dr. Tewari and Dr. Steven Kaplan from Mount Sinai.
Following three key principles, exercising, eating right, and elevating your mind through various techniques, including meditation, Dr. Tewari’s team has designed a unique program that plays an important role in our patients’ lives. Program highlights include:
- Nutritional strategies and weight loss for health optimization prior to radical robotic prostatectomy
- Lifestyle recommendations for patients to facilitate post-surgery recovery, optimize healing, and keep patients at low risk for potential recurrence
- Mind-body strategies and/or acupuncture to help patients cope with stress or anxiety pre-surgery
- Active Surveillance program: comprehensive individualized assessment and health optimization for patients on active surveillance to assist in risk reduction
- Other holistic approaches for overall health and wellness
The Mind-Body Connection: Addressing Inflammation in Prostate Cancer
Dr. Tewari and his team promote a holistic approach to prostate cancer treatment, incorporating lifestyle changes (nutrition, exercise, and strategies for stress reduction) into treatment approaches. The team is set to embark on new research to investigate the effect of mind-body interventions, such as yoga and meditation, on inflammation and prostate cancer progression.
Scientists and clinicians in the Department of Urology met recently with Deepak Chopra, MD, a pioneer in integrative (complementary) medicine, to discuss how forms of alternative medicine may improve physiological and psychological health for prostate cancer patients and may reduce inflammation.
The two teams are now working together on a shared research project to further investigate the effects of inflammation on prostate cancer. Dr. Tewari believes that the management of inflammation through non-pharmaceutical lifestyle changes, integrated with other medical approaches and perspectives, can be crucial in halting or slowing the progression of prostate cancer.
Our expectation is that this work will enable a new way of accurately identifying dynamic physiological changes in patients who receive a comprehensive mind-body intervention and will also provide information about the associated molecular and genomic markers.

The Mind-Body Connection
Being an avid health enthusiast, Dr. Tewari encourages his patients to make healthy lifestyle changes including exercise and keeping a positive attitude, which is also important for health. Integrative medicine, including mind-body therapy (MBT) that comprises intervention strategies and practices like yoga, meditation, relaxation breathing, physical exercise, and healthy eating, has shown potential benefits in physiological and psychological health, and on systemic inflammation.
